Well done!

The mastering on this track is phenomenal. If you don't mind my asking, what program did you write this in? What plugins did you use? The patches sound pretty high quality and they mix well together.

TaylorS responds:

I write most of my work in Finale 2011, use the aria engine, and Garritan plugins.

Nice.

Very nice. I think the next step is to add some dynamics, that would make it really effective, even if it is on an organ. Maybe decrease the tempo just a bit too.

RipVanWinkle357 responds:

I like really fast stuff. I did this originally as a sax quartet, but the bastards couldn't play it fast enough. Thanks to them, I wound up recording it with me on all the parts (yeah, I play 4 different saxophones). I revised it for organ, but failed to remember moving over my dynamics.

Decent

Was def a great movie-i'll give you that. And a great remix to go along with James Cameron's vision! Good stuff man. If I may offer some piece of small advice..maybe change up the bass pattern once in a while-or at least set it to a new progression. It does get a little old listening to III I V II, over and over again. If you don't know what I'm talking about study up on some chord or progression analyze-that'll also give you a lot broader spectrum of thought to move about with your music.

Catstuffer responds:

Welllll, I was considering going into thirds, keeping the same progression, but just changing the feel, u know. But clocking in jsut slightly over 2 minutes shouldnt be that bad to deal with it. Also, middle thrid of the song drops out the bassline completely. So really its only about 1:20 of the bassline.

Thanks for the review! I appreciate criticism :D

Beastly.

It's always nice to have a bit of a nostalgic moment every now and then, so thanks for sharing it with me! Love the orchestration at 0:45 too. Really should use this type of remix for Golden Sun: DS [whenever the hell that's going to come out!!]

But anyways, really nice. Thanks. Gonna go grab my gear for one more run through again..

HexMonkey responds:

Thank you. I didn't even know they were making a Golden Sun DS. Have fun playing through again.

Too bad it's already been zeroed..

This is a good attempt. Individually, your 23 patterns are probably pretty strong. However, that number in general is not typically what you want to be focusing on. Rather, the flow of your total music..

This is less commonly stated in most trance, but a definite beginning, middle, and end pattern still applies-which you do have. However, the middle sections did not have clear cut or innovative transitions. [I know this is hard with FL which is why I don't always use it] but adding in maybe a 3/4 measure every and then, or having NOT always 4 measure segments would be interesting. The best composers are the one's who have broken the rules [in good ways, obviously].

Also, towards 1 minute in there were too many clashing lines, which is probably why some of the voters gave a ZERO right away-they probably assumed the song would continue just adding in each of the 23 patterns-which is not the way u want to go really(i know you didn't do this I'm just saying).

Anyways-probably rambling. but good luck on the next one!
And also please check out my recently added "River Flows REMIX", however it is a first edit written by me literally 2 or more years ago and I'll be starting the 2nd edit fairly soon.

SuperKirbyMaster responds:

Thanks for the advice.
The "clashy-ness" you're talking talking about is actually on purpose. I was aiming for an "insanity"-esque piece, claiming it as rapture instead, and so creating an illusion sort of. Or not.
Well idk, I kinda made it as my mood changed, a sort of "go-with-the-flow".
And I'll think about the 3/4 measure, I'm still learning.

progressions..

Learn some progressions! If you're like me who has started composing music without any background knowledge of music theory, which I also did not and sounds like you possibly might not have, then go and get some! Learning how chords resolve and create tension, learning how to build working harmonies and such all greatly add to any piece. Go learn some music theory! Otherwise, yes, good try, you're getting there.

RoninAway responds:

Thanks for awesome review! :) I do have music experience, however not in composing, and yes I will be going to a music university this fall :) I hope to learn a great deal! Thanks again =)

Ok.

I definatley agree with the 1:55 synth, also, I think you're using to many diminished chords, I rarely hear a resolve-which will tie together most sections of the piece and make people want to listen more. Just a thought.

RoninAway responds:

the way you said it, I do understandXD It's just that I'm a beginner, and beginners have a thing for melting things together to make it easier, I think OO Anyways, I've learned for the future! Thanks for review :)

get off the meth..

i think it's hillarious how u called dimrain's new song sucky, when your ONE song has only 25 downloads, and its been up for MONTHS. also...

how the $*@() would your hip hop crap ever mix with techno? wat are u on??? seriously??

dj-skeetskeet-69 responds:

yeah, downloads are the only thing that determines a good song. even though this isn't good or anything, but i mean, plenty of people have plenty good music without being mass downloaded. =P i like how r.e.m. went for a month and got like 2000 then in like 2 days got the next 3000 haha. and the last 3 songs all have like exactly 5000

by the far the best in its class
